The 2nd Reunion for the USS Richard E. Byrd DDG-23 was held October 2-5th, 2003 in Norfolk, VA.
There were a total of 54 shipmates and 34 guests in attendance.
On Friday the 3rd of October, there was a tour to The Mariners Museum and the Air and Space Museum with a lunch at the Old Country Buffet.
On Saturday the 4th there was a cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk complete with lunch followed by a bus tour of the Norfolk Naval Base.
Saturday morning business meeting was called to order by David L. Cunningham, the reunion coordinator. His wife Betty read the minutes of the 2001 reunion. She also gave the treasurers report. David thanked Mrs. Betts and Ron Vaughn for the extra help with the registration and setting up of the Hospitality Room. A special thanks to Mike Wall (Don's son) for the $200 contribution to help cover the expenses of the Hospitality Room.
Dave and Betty announced they would take orders for jackets (with Byrd logo), shirts and caps and plaques to be shipped at a later date, with all profits from merchandise going into the general fund.
Anyone wishing to speak was given an opportunity. A motion was made that Dave and Betty Cunningham should be the coordinators for the 2005 Reunion. There was a discussion about where the 2005 Reunion would be held. Suggestions were Las Vegas, Branson, Buffalo, and New Orleans. This was discussed and voted on to go to Branson, MO. in September or October.
Capt. Channing Zuker, USN Retired, presided as Master of Ceremony for the evening festivities with 88 people in attendance on Saturday night. We dined on Grilled Chicken or Roast Prime Rib of Beef with all the fixings. 1976-1978 Commanding Officer Bob Goodwin was introduced. Drawing for the 50/50 prize was won by John Hosselrode. A marble plaque of the USS Richard E. Byrd was won by Bob Earnest. One night's lodging was won by one of our shipmates also. We enjoyed music during and after the dinner provided by Kat's N Jammer band. There was also dancing after dinner and the presentations were over. A good time was enjoyed by all.

Dues will continue to be $20.00 per shipmate to be paid on the year of the reunion. Registration Fee for the 2005 Reunion will be $10.00 per person attending.
